Cicely Mary Barker (28 June 1895 – 16 February 1973) Illustrator and Poet. 1895-1973. Author of the Flower Fairies children's books. Lived, in her later life, in Manor Close off Church Street, Storrington.
John Galsworthy (14 August 1867 – 31 January 1933) Novelist and Dramatist. 1867-1933. Nobel Prize in Literature, 1932. Final seven years of his life spent in Bury House, Bury.
Francis Thompson (1859-1907) Poet. Stayed in the Monastery, Storrington (1889). 'The Hound of Heaven' was written in Storrington.
Archibald Joseph Cronin (1897–1981) Doctor (Dr Finlay) and Writer. Lived in Sullington for some years before the Second World War.
Arnold Bennett (1867-1931) Novelist. In 1926 stayed for 8 weeks in Amberley in a house now known as Boxwood in Church Street.
John Ireland Composer. Born in Bowden, nr Manchester in 1879 and died in Sussex in 1962. Retired to Sussex in 1953 when he bought a converted windmill on Rock Common, Washington.
Jomo Kenyatta First President of Kenya. 1894-1978. Stayed during the war years in Sullington.
Lady Cynthia Mary Evelyn Asquith, an English writer, known for her ghost stories and diaries, 1887 - 31 March 1960. Daughter of Hugo Richard Charteris, 11th Earl of Wemyss (1857 - 1937), she lived at the Old Rectory, Sullington from 1939 until 1946.
Sir Norman Joseph Wisdom OBE. An English actor, comedian and singer-songwriter (4 February 1915 - 4 October 2010), lived in West Chiltington,
David Paul Frederick Hardy (1862 - 1942). Painter and illustrator. He designed and made the original galleon weatervane which is now inside St Mary's church Storrington. Best known for his illustrations of "Canterbury Pilgrims”.
Hugh de Selincourt (1878-1951) was an English author and journalist, chiefly remembered today for his timeless tale of village cricket, The Cricket Match (1924).
Major John Roland Abbey (23 November 1894 – 24 December 1969) was an English book collector and High Sheriff.
Sir Oswald Mosley, (1848 - 1915) 4th Baronet, of Ancoats. Owner of Abingworth Hall, Thakeham. Grand father to the fascist politician Sir Oswald Mosley, 6th Baronet.
Charlotte Smith , (1749 - 1806) Poet and Novelist. She initiated a revival of the English sonnet, helped establish the conventions of Gothic fiction, and wrote political novels of sensibility.
George Sanders (1906-1972) Russian-born English film and television actor, singer-songwriter, music composer, and author.
Sir Arnold Edward Trevor Bax Composer. Born in London in 1883 and died in Cork in 1953. Knighted in 1937, became Master of the King's Musick in 1942. Brief autobiography - 'Farewell, my youth' (1943). Lived out his last years at the White Horse pub in Storrington.
Anna Massey CBE, an English actress who won a BAFTA Award for the role of Edith Hope in the 1986 TV adaptation of Anita Brookner's novel "Hotel du Lac".
Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, lived at St Joseph's Hall Storrington when Bishop of Arundel and Brighton.
John William Bramham, Artist. 1905-1990. Moved to Storrington in 1960 and lived for 30 years in The Studio, Manley's Hill at the junction with Meadowside.
Edward Stott ARA. Painter and draughtsman (1859 - 1918) lived and is buried at Amberley.
Wilfrid Meynell (1852-1948). A British newspaper publisher and editor.
Reginald Wells, Sculptor, architect and designer of early aeroplanes (1877- 1951), lived in West Chiltington.
Arthur Rackham(1867–1939) was an English book illustrator.
William Desmond Anthony Pertwee MBE. British comedy actor, best known for playing the part of the ARP Warden Hodges in the popular sitcom Dad's Army.
A.F Bell, (1875-1918) Poet. Wrote verses strongly featuring West Sussex including, A Home Coming (1913), From Pulboro' to Storrington (1913)
Sir Edward Lutyens (1869 - 1944) Architect
Designed "Little Thakeham" in Merrywood Lane, near Storrington.
